It’s almost the most wonderful time of year, which means that preparations for the holiday season have been put into action around Walt Disney World. We’ve previously taken a look at early preparations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but now we’re taking a trip over to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort for our first look at construction of the annual gingerbread house!

Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Construction

It’s a sweet symphony of hammers and frosting as the culinary team at Disney’s Grand Floridian works in concert with Walt Disney World’s in-house contractor to create the best gingerbread house of the year. Teams began construction yesterday, and they should be finished by the weekend. We stopped by Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort this morning to take a look at the progress. As you’ll see, a lot of the gingerbread shingles have already been applied, but teams will continue to work through the day to create the Holiday Season staple.

So much of the holiday season decoration installation at Walt Disney World appears to be magic, but one of the reasons that I love documenting the construction process (of any project) is that it’s a reminder that true magic at Walt Disney World isn’t the swing of a wand, but rather the swing of a hammer. Passionate and talented people come together to create something wonderful on a daily basis, and while a lot of that development takes place behind construction walls, the Grand Floridian gingerbread house is one of the most visible and accessible ways to see that magic. Ok, time for some photos!
