A new report from Seatrade Cruise News says that Disney’s next class of ships will be smaller than the recent Wish-class and even smaller than the Dream-class of ships already in the fleet. The three ships will be about 20% larger than the Magic-class ships, the Magic and Wonder. Disney will be making the smaller ships to allow for the new ships to run on a variety of fuels, and to further Disney Cruise Line’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
Disney’s New Fleet of Cruise Ships
Disney’s most recent class of cruise ships is known as the Wish-class, and it contains the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure. The Disney Destiny is another Wish-class ship that is scheduled to have its maiden voyage in November 2025.
Back in August 2024, Disney Cruise Line announced that it would be expanding its fleet with four all-new cruise ships. The new ships will debut between 2027 and 2031, bringing Disney Cruise Line’s total fleet number up to 13. The ship names, designs, and itineraries are still in development.
Of the four new ships, it is said that one will be a Wish-class ship, and the other three will be the new, smaller design. The smaller design will not only allow for a reduction in environmental impact, but it will also allow for more destinations to be added to Disney Cruise Line itineraries – including locations that only support “smaller” ships.
The new ships will be 100,000gt (versus 144,000gt for the Wish-class), and they will reduce capacity from 4,000 on the Wish-class down to 3,000 – just 300 more than the Magic-class.
In addition to the four new ships announced at the D23 Expo in 2024, Disney Cruise Line announced a partnership with the Oriental Land Company to bring a Disney-branded year-round cruise experience to Japan via a new Meyer Werft-built ship. The Japan cruise ship is expected to debut in 2029.
Disney Cruise Line also purchased a partially-built ship for an “immaterial” amount (reports say just over $40 million) to bring its cruise business to Singapore with the launch of the Disney Adventure in late 2025.
