Following years of coverage here on BlogMickey.com, construction is accelerating for an all-new main entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. While visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we stopped by Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to find that a new guardhouse is being built, along with visible roadways for the new resort entrance. Here’s the latest!

New Guardhouse Under Construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
We’ll start with a refresher of what’s happening based on our coverage of permits for the project. In the first permit overlay image below, we can see that a new entrance is being constructed roughly where Seven Seas Drive meets Floridian Way. The current entrance will become a bus-only roadway.

If you’ve driven through this area in the past year or more, you’ll know it’s a mess of construction. That’s because Disney is doing more than just creating a new entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
In the zoomed-out permit overlay image below, we can see that Disney is also creating a new roundabout and a new roadway that will cut through a portion of the Magic Kingdom parking lot reserved for Cast Members. This new roundabout will be used to access the new main entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. I would imagine that Disney would move the Polynesian Village Resort main entrance sign to the area near “MKP-NORTHWEST(2)” on the image below.

Ok, with some context out of the way, let’s take a look at the construction. We’ll start with a view from the monorail, as it provides a pretty good elevated look at the construction site adjacent to the porte cochere.
As you can see in the image below, the entrance roadway is taking shape. Curbs are in place, and work is underway on related infrastructure. The new entrance is expected to open sometime next year.

From the ground, we can see how close the work is to the porte cochere. A construction fence is just steps away, but it doesn’t really impact operations just yet.

Walking along a sidewalk that passes close to the current main entrance of the resort, we can see the new guardhouse being constructed in the distance (image below, left). Here’s a closer look at the work from various angles, including the current Polynesian Village parking lot.
