Last month, the FriendShip route changed at EPCOT. The change appeared to be a simple operational change, but there may be more at play here. Currently, the FriendShip runs between the Canada Pavilion and the Germany Pavilion. Prior to the change, the route ran between the Canada Pavilion and the Morocco Pavilion. In fact, prior to the COVID-19 shutdowns, all four docks were in operation, shuttling guests between Mexico and Germany, and Canada and Morocco. Recently, operations changed, and we might have an idea why.
Morocco Dock Appears To Be Sinking at EPCOT
While visiting EPCOT recently, we couldn’t help but notice that something seemed off about the Morocco FriendShip dock. A closer look revealed that it appeared to be sinking, with a portion of the dock dipping below the water line. The dock was slanted toward the water, dipping into the water a bit. This is inconsistent with how the dock looked in the past, and what the other FriendShip docks look like currently. Here’s a look!

Both sides of the dock are partially underwater – not a great feature for a dock. It’s possible that the recent change in operations to use the Germany Pavilion dock instead of the Morocco dock is due to safety concerns. Walt Disney World did not return a request for comment about the operational change.

Here’s an example of what the dock is supposed to look like – fully out of the water. This is the Canada Pavilion dock, which is in use for the FriendShip boat shuttle service.
