Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement permit for electrical work at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom. As you may know, the attraction is receiving a major update, closing in August to support the overhaul. Here’s the latest!

Walt Disney Imagineering Permit for Buzz Lightyear Attraction at Magic Kingdom

The permit lists Elite A/V Systems Inc. as the contractor for “electrical work”. Elite A/V Systems Inc. has recently been used by Disney for work on the upcoming Zootopia: Better Zoogether Tree of Life show at Animal Kingdom and for work on Test Track at EPCOT. The permit has a default expiration date of one year.

As previously announced Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close sometime in August for a significant overhaul of the attraction. The work will include updated ride vehicles with new blasters and a new scoring screen. The ride will also receive updates, including new targets to shoot at with animated effects. In addition to the ride and vehicle updates, Imagineers have announced that they will create a new show scene in the ride (concept art below).

Walt Disney World has not announced a specific closing date. Previously, Walt Disney World has announced that the ride will close sometime in August.

In fact, there is no information posted on the Walt Disney World webpage for the attraction about the upcoming closure. With the August timeline now just a couple of months away, we would typically see some sort of notice on the Walt Disney World website by now.

Walt Disney World has not returned requests for comment about the closing date.
