Work is progressing nicely at Disney’s Grand Floridian for an all-new walk-up bar in the lobby as part of a refresh of the space. To make way for the bar, the iconic birdcage was removed, and work has been ongoing as Disney introduces plumbing to the area. Our last update was just about a week ago, so it was time to check back in and see what progress had been made. Here’s a look around!
Grand Floridian Lobby Refurbishment & New Bar
We’ll start with a quick refresher on what to expect when the project is completed next year. As you can see in the concept art below, the overall look and feel of the lobby will largely remain the same. The biggest change, that we can spot in the art, is the addition of a walk-up bar where the birdcage used to be. The new bar will feature theming touches that will pay homage to the former birdcage. Work is also taking place in the front desk area, and the Garden View Tea Room on the far end of the lobby in the concept art below.

Ok, with that out of the way, let’s take a look at the latest progress. When we last visited, the biggest news was that some plumbing was installed through some exposed dirt in the floor. We assumed that the pipe was to support drains, and our most recent visit to Grand Floridian confirms our suspicions. New plumbing work was also underway when we recently visited. Here’s a look!

Beyond the lobby bar construction, new work is taking place on a stairway refurbishment near Citricos, and work continues on the walls and ceiling of the former check-in area.
