Guests visiting Disney’s BoardWalk through May will notice ongoing refurbishment of the stores. The work will be done in phases, with two merchandise locations remaining open at all times throughout the refurbishment. We made it out to Disney’s BoardWalk recently to take a look at the work.

Screen Door General Store Closed for Refurbishment

First, here’s a look at the statement from Walt Disney World about the refurbishment.

From January 2025 through May 2025, the merchandise locations along Disney’s BoardWalk will be refurbished. Two merchandise locations will remain available for Guests throughout the refurbishment. During this time, Guests may see and hear construction activity in the area.

The first shop to be closed for refurbishment is the Screen Door General Store on the far left of the strip of stores. The two shops that remain open at this time are Disney’s Character Carnival and Thimbles & Threads.

Here’s a look at Disney’s Character Carnival, which remains open while the nearby Screen Door General Store is closed. A construction wall has been installed inside the store and work can be heard taking place next door.

Also open is Thimbles & Threads. Here’s a look around that merchandise location.
