A newly updated webpage for the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction may offer a hint that the long-rumored explosive finale may not be part of the “new magic” planned for this refurbishment. It’s a surprising change, but perhaps Walt Disney World isn’t planning on updating the finale scene after all. Here’s what has changed, and what it may mean.
Walt Disney World Removed “Exploding Dynamite” Description
Earlier this week, we covered the news that a new description was added to the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad webpage. At the time, the change indicated that Disney was shifting the storyline from that of an abandoned mine to an active mine. Now, Walt Disney World has updated the description again, removing a reference to exploding dynamite.
First, here’s a look at the change in description.
After you arrive at the legendary Big Thunder Mining Company, descend into an active mine shaft and board your runaway train. As you enter the cavern, the engine speeds up along the rickety track. Dodge exploding dynamite and falling boulders as you swoop around turns, drop into canyons and dart through the town of Tumbleweed.

As to what it could mean, it could be a case of Disney trying to manage expectations. It’s worth noting that the “exploding dynamic and falling boulders” description was part of the pre-refurbishment webpage description. It has been on the website for years.
To me, if Disney hadn’t removed the description, they may have been able to get away with an un-updated finale because this section of the description has been consistent for years. That said, if there truly are no plans to update the finale to the long-rumored exploding finale seen in other versions of the ride, now would be a good time to remove this part of the description.
Yesterday, I would’ve bet that Walt Disney World was going to update the finale scene. Now, I’m not too sure.
Officially, all Walt Disney World has announced is an updated “Rainbow Caverns” opening scene. Disney did hint at more new details yet to be announced, but nothing else has been confirmed as of publish time.
