Let them eat cake! The soon-to-open Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk has lowered pricing after receiving backlash on social media before they even opened to the public. The princess party cake shop (and restaurant) replaced the ESPN Club on the east side of Disney’s BoardWalk and is currently undergoing test meals before opening to the public. If the offering wasn’t divisive enough due to the theme, pricing posted on an outdoor menu earlier this month certainly caused a stir on social media.

Cake Bake Shop Lowers Pricing Ahead of Grand Opening

As we previously reported, The Cake Bake Shop posted its menu earlier this month and the prices were pretty exorbitant – even for an expensive third-party dining location. Not only were the prices out of alignment with what you’d expect from an already-expensive Walt Disney World restaurant experience, but they were also out of alignment with other Cake Bake Shop locations.

Markups are not uncommon for third-party restaurants once they reach Walt Disney World property, but throwing significant markups on top of the already-high Cake Bake Shop prices at non-Disney venues could be a recipe for disaster.

The Charcuterie board was $10 more expensive than other Cake Bake Shop locations. The Pesto Burrata was $6 more expensive. The quiches were $10 more expensive. The sandwiches were $5-$8 more expensive. Even the peanut butter and jelly off of the children’s menu enjoyed a 40% markup at Walt Disney World.

The list went on and on. Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake previously would’ve set you back $26 – a more than 50% increase versus her other locations. A lemon bar was $16 at Walt Disney World – nearly double the asking price at other Cake Bake Shop venues. Even Coca-Cola would’ve made you search your wallet for a $10 bill. Insanity.

Now, prices have been lowered pretty much across the board, with some prices lowered just a penny (really?!), and other menu items receiving much more substantial price cuts. Some notable price cuts include the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict ($42 to $27), Eggs Any Style ($26 to $17), Crab Cake with Remoulade ($36 to $27), the complete removal of the $78 charcuterie board, mixed berry cheesecake ($26 to $19), and the list goes on and on. Even the “Marie Antoinette” pastry saw a $3 price reduction. It’s unclear if the price cuts represent a slimmer margin for the restaurant or a lesser quality dish. The private test meals haven’t resulted in any food quality insights.

However! Not all prices went down. Some prices were increased by $1 on select items, including some of the cake slices that were already operating at prices that were some 40% higher than other Cake Bake Shop locations. So, it’s not all good news if you were already on the fence with the pricing.

Here’s a look at the newly posted pricing for The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk.
