Recently, Walt Disney World began covering or removing the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser signage around property. There were three roadway signs, two directional signs, and one welcome sign for the abandoned immersive theater hotel. Now, most of the signage has been removed or covered as Disney presumably moves forward with rumored plans to convert the ambitious project into offices.
Starcruiser Signage Removed or Covered
We’ll start with the most recent change – the covering of the main roadway sign found on Osceola Parkway. This sign was covered sometime in the past few days, and we made it out to take photos of it today.
First, here’s a look at the Starcruiser signage from the morning it debuted back in January 2022.

And here’s a look at the sign from a recent drive around Walt Disney World. As you can see, the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” portion was covered with a similar skill as when I tried to color match my wall at home after a drywall project that got out of hand.

Another sign was covered for the exit where guests used to turn to find the Galactic Starcruiser. This is now exclusively for Cast Member parking at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Another sign that has been removed from a pseudo backstage area is the shipping containers that acted as directional signs for the one-way road into the Galactic Starcruiser parking area. These were moved a few weeks ago as part of the construction project for an all-new Monsters Inc. roller coaster. The new coaster building is taking over a significant portion of the Cast Member parking lot, and it didn’t make sense for the shipping containers to take up space.
I believe that the shipping containers were moved closer to the Galactic Starcruiser, but in a fully backstage area.

There are two signs that remain standing with the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser name. The first is the monolith at the entrance to the hotel, pictured in our file photo below.

The other sign is one that will likely be covered soon. As of today, the Galactic Starcruiser sign at the exit to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios parking lot is still uncovered. With no other waypoints on the sign, we imagine that Disney would be comfortable removing or replacing this completely.

In terms of what’s next for the Starcruiser building, it is rumored that Walt Disney Imagineering is taking over the building for office space. It’s unclear if the building is currently in use as an office space, but there aren’t any signs of it being used. Of course, it’s built like a bunker, so it’s impossible to really see what’s going on.
If it will be used as office space, that is, perhaps, less creative than demolishing it completely. It’s ironic that the creative branch for the Disney theme parks is taking over the building of one of its most ambitious projects yet. The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was an amazing multi-day immersive theater hotel, putting guests in the middle of Star Wars action, storylines, and experiences. The fact that Disney allowed the experience to become a failure is astounding.
In terms of what’s next, Disney Experiences Chairman and CEO-in-waiting Josh D’Amaro said that “something will happen” with the space, teasing guests that Disney had something up its sleeves in a June 2023 interview. It’s unclear if D’Amaro lied or if the plans that Disney had for the space fell apart. Either way, there is nothing on the horizon for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and the covering of signage simply underscores that point.
