In remarks to the media today, President Donald Trump spoke from Abu Dhabi, touting some of the investments that companies are making in the region. Trump specifically called out Disney, acknowledging that they are building a new theme park. Trump called Disney’s plans for the theme park “incredible” and noted that Disney CEO Bob Iger showed him the plans recently.

Disney CEO Bob Iger Shows Off Disneyland Abu Dhabi Plans to President Trump

We have American companies – we have Exxon, Oracle, RTX Qualcomm, and many others. Too many to name…Disney, I see the new theme park is going to be incredible. Bob Iger was in my office the other day and he was showing it to me – it’s going to be incredible.

For his part, Iger has been praising the UAE since the deal was announced. Iger called Abu Dhabi the “perfect place” for a Disney theme park, and called the fact Disney was building a theme park there a “huge endorsement” of the UAE.

A recent rumor said that Iger vetoed the idea of building a theme park in Saudi Arabia, instead settling on Abu Dhabi and the Yas Island tourism district. Iger said that Disney has been eyeing the region for nearly a decade, but that the plans that were announced earlier this month came together relatively quickly.

According to the Miral CEO, Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be an indoor theme park, but little else is known about Disney’s plans. It is said that the theme park won’t open until 2030 at the earliest as Disney works on attraction and entertainment concepts.

Disney will design the theme park, with Miral footing the costs for development and construction. Miral will also operate the theme park with “significant oversight” from Disney. Disney stands to collect money from the development of the theme park, as well as royalties once it opens to the public.
