Walt Disney World has announced that the ongoing refurbishment of Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be extended by a full year. Previously, the refurbishment was scheduled to end in “Summer 2025”. Now, a new deadline of “July 2026” has been announced. Here’s the latest.
Contemporary Resort Refurbishment Extended into Summer 2026
The new notice from Walt Disney World is a bit confusing when trying to figure out where the refurbishment is taking place. The guest rooms at the Contemporary have been updated in recent years, so that’s not on the table now. Over at Bay Lake Tower, a lengthy refurbishment of guest rooms was previously scheduled to end in September 2026. Construction appears to have been humming along, but perhaps Disney has found something that requires even more work.
We’ll start with a look at the change in the website notice.
September 2024 Through Summer 2025
Refurbishments will occur in select areas of Disney’s Contemporary Resort—including Bay Lake Tower and the Convention Center. Please allow for extra travel time. Guests may also see and hear construction during their stay.

As you can see, the timeframe for the work has been extended by a year, with construction expected to last through July 2026.
Additionally, a specific notice about the work taking place at Bay Lake Tower remains available on the Disney Vacation Club website.

During the refurbishment, Guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower. Additionally, the Skybridge may experience intermittent closures. Please allow extra time for travel as alternate paths may be utilized.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the planned refurbishment of the Bay Cove Pool, which is still on the schedule for January 26, 2026 through early May 2026.
In terms of the planned work, the change in notice is interesting. Walt Disney World has not announced any new plans for the resort complex, but a yearlong extension would suggest some significant work is planned. We’ll keep an eye on the resort to see if we notice any changes.
