This weekend, construction walls expanded around the Rivers of America in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The change comes as Walt Disney World prepares Tom Sawyer Island for demolition, and the Rivers of America for drainage. As you may know, Walt Disney World is replacing the Rivers of America with a Cars-themed area meant to expand Frontierland and a Villains Land. Here’s the latest.
Construction Walls Expand Around Rivers of America
Last week, we noticed the first construction walls arrive, but they were mostly limited to very specific areas that Disney didn’t want guests accessing. Now, the walls have expanded to include more real estate around the Rivers of America. We made it out to Magic Kingdom this morning to take a look!

Construction walls now stretch from the Haunted Mansion attraction (and part of the queue) to the Frontierland boardwalk. The boardwalk remains free of construction walls (for now) until you reach the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction. The boardwalk near that attraction has construction walls down to the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction area. Here’s a look around!
We’ll start at the former Liberty Square Riverboat attraction entrance. According to concept art, this building will remain standing once all of the construction is finished.

Turning right from the Liberty Square Riverboat launch, we’ll head toward Haunted Mansion. More scrims have arrived in the queue as Disney works to block the view of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America before the carnage begins.

Going back to the Liberty Square Riverboat launch building, we’ll now turn left, toward Frontierland. As you can see, construction walls have expanded in this area, running all the way to the start of the boardwalk.

The boardwalk remains construction wall-free, for now, but it will eventually be blocked off. Disney has previously told preferred media that the boardwalk itself will remain open to traverse, but that there will be walls. As we get closer to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ll get a better idea of what that could look like.

Here’s a look at new construction walls, running along the boardwalk that is directly in front of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This could be how Disney will block off views from the boardwalk. It’s unknown how quickly they’ll install construction walls, but the project appears to be changing daily as Disney wastes no time preparing the area for demolition.
