While visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort recently, we noticed that crews were beginning construction of the birdcage bar for the reimagined lobby. The “birdcage bar” replaces the longtime birdcage that used to sit on one side of the lobby. Walt Disney World announced the lobby reimagining project back in April, and construction walls were installed just a few days later. We’ve been keeping tabs on the project for months, and now we have a first look at the construction of the birdcage bar! Here’s a look around.
Birdcage Bar Construction Begins at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
While the former birdcage was removed back in late April, Disney will pay homage to it with the design of a new walk-up bar seen in the concept art below. Inspired by the lobby’s iconic birdcage, the bar will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents. You may even spot colorful birds in the stained glass and murals throughout the atrium! Opposite the bar, guests will still find the Victorian cage-style elevator that fans know and love.

And here’s a look at the latest work from a recent visit to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! As you can see, crews were working on the first bit of the birdcage bar structure. The back wall will contain stained glass featuring birds taking flight.

The floor infrastructure appears to be complete, with concrete poured and prepared for the construction of the facade.

Another recent change is that the main staircase is now blocked by construction walls as crews work to repaint and retheme the area.

Work continues on the check-in area too, with more drywall coming down when we visited.

Finally, here’s a sneak peek at some new lighting fixtures that are being installed. This will carry forward a floral theme for the reimagining. Here’s a before/after of the fixtures.
