Walt Disney World has just announced the next phase of closures coming to DinoLand USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Today’s news includes a closing date for The Boneyard in DinoLand USA and news about a new play area planned for the Tropical Americas-themed land opening in 2027.

According to Walt Disney World, the final day of operations for The Boneyard will be September 1st, 2025, with the area closed off to guests starting September 2nd as construction begins. Other areas of DinoLand USA that are currently operating such as the DINOSAUR attraction and Restaurantosaurus will remain open through the end of the year, and there is no announced closing date at this time. Here’s the latest!

DinoLand USA: Boneyard Playground Closing Date

As just announced, The Boneyard will have its final day of operation on September 1st, and it will be permanently closed to guests starting September 2nd.

The closure date represents an acceleration of the previously announced timeframe for The Boneyard. Previously, Walt Disney World said that the Boneyard would be open “throughout 2025”. Disney says that Imagineering is making great progress on the new land, allowing the construction timeline to be pushed forward slightly.

For guests who are concerned that 2026 closing timeframes for DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus will see a similar acceleration, the latest from Walt Disney World is that there is no change to the plans for those two areas. Both DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus will remain open through the end of the year. An exact 2026 closing date has not been announced for either offering.

New Playground Planned for Tropical Americas

For parents who love allowing the little ones to explore, Disney has also announced that a new themed play area is planned for the Tropical Americas land when it opens in 2027. No further details were officially announced, but we have previously speculated on the location and theme of a play area.

What’s Replacing The Boneyard?

The Boneyard will be replaced by the previously announced character carousel. Within the Tropical Americas land is a new town called Esperanza. The town features classic Spanish-style architecture in the heart of the rainforest and a carousel featuring the resident wood carver’s favorite animals.

This is a breaking news story, and the article will be updated shortly with more details from Walt Disney World.

Tropical Americas — better known as Pueblo Esperanza — will be a new 11-acre lush and sprawling area. Just like Harambe, this land will feel lived in, with a long, rich history. Not only will the land include a hacienda — which will be one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Disney World Resort — but also two signature attractions for Indiana Jones and Encanto.

Additionally, the area will feature a large fountain in the center and a local woodcarver has created a giant working carousel featuring his favorite animals from Disney stories. It’s a new take on a classic attraction that young families are going to love.
