Following a few days of draining efforts, the Rivers of America is drained enough to begin early construction activity at Magic Kingdom. BlogMickey.com broke the news that draining had begun late last week, and now it looks like enough water has been removed from the basin that construction vehicles can enter the drained river. Here’s a look at the Rivers of America from Frontierland and from more than 3,000 feet in the air above Magic Kingdom.

Rivers of America Drained at Magic Kingdom

We’ll actually begin this article with an on-the-ground update from last night’s debut Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party event. We snapped these photos before the sun set and the spookiness began. Actually, seeing the Rivers of America drained as much as it has was almost a jump scare in itself.

There was very little water left in the basin when we visited, with the water present so low that the track was nearly fully exposed. If I had to guess, there was less than a foot of water left in this part of the river, and it was dry around the northern loop.

Now, let’s get to those aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct. In updated aerial photos posted today, we can get a 3,200′ view of the drained Rivers of America, and even some construction vehicles along the northern bend in the river.

It is likely that the construction vehicles will be used to clean out the muck that has accumulated over time, and to remove the track. Ultimately, the entire area will be demolished and leveled to grade to begin the construction of the Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area that will serve as a storytelling expansion of Frontierland.

The southern bend in the river shows the area that we can see from within Magic Kingdom, and the same area is represented in our on-the-ground photos above.
