On September 8, 2025, one of Walt Disney World Resort‘s two water parks officially closed for routine refurbishment. Disney’s Blizzard Beach officially shut its doors on Monday, leaving Central Florida Disney Park guests with only one water park option: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.

It was a special summer at Walt Disney World Resort, as this was the first time since 2019 that Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park were open simultaneously. For the last six years, one water park has remained closed for refurbishment while the other welcomed guests. From May 21 to September 7, 2025, both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks were open.

Summer, which is already a busy season for Walt Disney World Resort’s water parks, was even busier in 2025. Disney Resort hotel guests get complimentary water park entry on check-in day, making Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach a must-do instead of a skip for many families.

Now, Disney Resort hotel guests and others wanting to add a water park day to their Central Florida vacation only have one choice: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. As of September 8, Disney’s Blizzard Beach is now closed for a scheduled refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort’s website reads:

“Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is currently unavailable. During this time, we encourage you to visit Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.”

Walt Disney World Resort has yet to announce a reopening date for Blizzard Beach. Although nothing is confirmed, Blizzard Beach will likely reopen when Typhoon Lagoon closes for refurbishment. It’s unlikely that Disney will reopen both water parks simultaneously as Central Florida moves into the cooler weather months.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park opened in 1995, six years after Typhoon Lagoon debuted in 1989. It was Walt Disney World Resort’s third water park until River Country closed permanently in 2001.
