A 911 incident log obtained by BlogMickey.com offers our best look yet into the recent Walt Disney World ferryboat crash that took place late at night on July 30th. The new 911 call log and incident report provide insight into the traumatic injuries that guests sustained during the “hard landing” around 11:40pm. Here’s what we learned.

Walt Disney World Ferryboat Crash Leads to Dozens of Injuries

We’ve previously covered the ferryboat incident, but we had to rely on some firsthand reports from the perspective of guests on the boat. While useful to provide the perspective of a single guest, we have been working to provide a more complete report of the incident that reportedly led to more than a dozen injuries.

As previously reported, the incident took place late at night on July 30th. New call logs obtained by BlogMickey.com show that the first 911 call was received at 11:40pm. Within 2 minutes, first responders were en route to the Transportation & Ticket Center. According to the logs, the first unit arrived at 1240 Seven Seas Drive within 2.5 minutes of being assigned.

An earlier report cited guests on the ferryboat who said that there were difficult conditions, such as heavy rain, when the incident occurred. Photos from the scene did show evidence that it had been raining recently. The incident log doesn’t describe the weather conditions at the time of the incident, and requests to Walt Disney World about the incident have not been answered.

A guest who was on the ferryboat described the crash by saying that “people weren’t just falling, they were flying”. The guest described the scene as chaotic after the crash, with guests scattered everywhere.

The incident log describes some of the injuries that first responders observed. One of the first guests in the incident log is a 25-year-old pregnant woman who fell on her belly as a result of the ferryboat crash. Multiple injuries were listed as “traumatic” but non-emergency. Essentially, this was coded as a mass casualty incident where multiple injuries needed to be attended to, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

The incident log goes on to describe that one person had a possible foot fracture. Another person was described as having a wrist injury. Other injuries included a patient with an elbow, wrist, and hip injury.

The incident log said that first responders were dealing with approximately 20 patients as a result of the ferryboat crash.

Due to the number of people injured, the incident required mutual aid assistance from both Osceola and Orange County rescue units.

Information from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said that there were a total of 19 transports to area hospitals as a result of the ferryboat crash. 12 of those patients were taken by CFTOD ambulances, 4 patients were transferred by Orange County first responders, and the remaining 3 were transported by Osceola County.

The patients were taken to at least four different hospitals, including Celebration, Horizon West, Flamingo Crossings, and Dr. Phillips. Some units needed to return to the Transportation and Ticket Center to transport more patients.

Of course, the question still remains of what exactly caused the ferryboat crash. Walt Disney World did not return a request for more information, and CFTOD was only involved in the medical response, not in the operation of the ferryboat.

Following the incident, Walt Disney World removed the trash cans from the ferryboats. It was rumored that a child was pinned during the ferryboat crash and that the trash cans caused some injuries. The cause of injuries was not outlined in the incident report, only the nature of the injuries.

No other significant operational adjustments have been observed following the ferryboat crash.
