Disney World has gone dark this afternoon. According to reports, a power surge shut down more than 40 rides and attractions across all four Disney World Parks.

The rides went down just after 5 p.m. without any explanation, and while all four Disney World Parks were impacted, there is minimal pattern to the outages. While it is being reported that there was a power surge, there was also a large storm in the area that could have shut down power to the rides.
As of this writing, the attractions currently down at Magic Kingdom are Astro Orbiter, Country Bear Musical Jamboree, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Tron Lightcycle/Run, Under the Sea–Journy of The Little Mermaid, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

At EPCOT, the list includes: Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, Living with the Land, Mission: Space, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Soarin’ Around the World, Test Track, and Turtle Talk with Crush.
At Hollywood Studios, the rides and attractions impacted are Alien Swirling Saucers, Mickey & Minnies Runaway Railroad, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, Star Tours–The Adventure Continues, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. The only two impacted rides at Animal Kingdom are DINOSAUR and Kali River Rapids.

The list of downed attractions includes indoor rides, which typically remain open during thunderstorms, and outdoor attractions, which typically close during Florida’s summer thunderstorms.
Labor Day weekend is typically a busy time for Disney World as families try to get in one last trip before the start of the school year and the unofficial end of summer. However, it appears that this weekend is off to a dubious start.

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
