After nearly 18 months of arguing and fighting, former Mandalorian star Gina Carano has settled her lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm. Carano sued the companies, claiming that she was illegally fired from the Disney+ Star Wars show after she openly expressed her conservative views, which she claimed went against Disney’s corporate views.
The financial terms of the settlement were not made public; however, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm said:
With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future. We have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.
Carano was fired from the show after making comments comparing Republicans in America to Jewish people during the Holocaust. However, in her lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company, Carano claimed that LucasFilm and Disney harassed her for not conforming to their opinions on social issues. She claims that after being fired, Disney and Lucasfilm harassed her and defamed her reputation.
Carano said that Disney and LucasFilm turned a blind eye to male cast members who harassed right-leaning politicians online, including her co-star Pedro Pascal. She specifically pointed to a post on X in which Pascal compared former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. Carano also cited some of Marvel star Mark Ruffalo’s tweets to show how Disney was ignoring the political beliefs of her male counterparts.
In a strange twist on this story, Elon Musk and X completely funded Carano’s lawsuit. At the time of the suit, an X spokesperson said they funded the lawsuit to promote “free speech” and ensure everyone could work without being “bullied” for their political beliefs.
In her original lawsuit, Carano was seeking $75,000 in damages and to be reinstated on The Mandalorian. It is unclear if this settlement means Carano will be in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film.
