According to philosopher/poet Jimmy Buffett, there ain’t no “trying to reason with hurricane season.”

While it may not be a hurricane disrupting Disney World and Central Florida this week, the disruption is a direct result of hurricane season. An area of low pressure developed off Florida’s Atlantic Coast and is heading west over the Sunshine State.
This afternoon, the system Invest 93L was churning away in the Atlantic as it started to move across Florida. Over the next several days, it is expected to feed on the warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico and has an increasing chance of becoming an organized storm.

By the time the system develops into a potential tropical storm or hurricane, it will be well past Florida, but its effects are impacting the Sunshine State this afternoon and over the next few days.
Disney World expects temperatures in the high 90s for the next few days, with the “feels like” temperature reaching into the 100s. On top of the soaring temperatures, there is the rain.
Parts of Central Florida are expecting up to three inches of rain over the next 24-48 hours. Some areas are expecting up to five inches of rain and localized flooding.

Storms are expected to continue through the remainder of Monday and into Tuesday. In addition to the theme parks, these storms are wreaking havoc on Orlando International Airport.
Storms Disrupting Airline Travel
This afternoon, Orlando International Airport issued a warning to travelers. It read:
Weather Alert Due to weather conditions across South Florida, airline operations may be affected – flight/baggage delivery delays may occur. Please check with your airline directly for any updates regarding their operations.

As of late afternoon on Monday, MCO had over 250 flights facing delays. That number is expected to rise as the severe storms move north in Central Florida.
So, while this latest storm will technically miss Disney World and Central Florida, its residual effects will still affect your summer vacation.
