A Walt Disney World Resort guest recently shared their story after a decision to end the evening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance turned into a lengthy, late-night ordeal.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of Walt Disney Imagineering’s most technically advanced attractions. It premiered in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019, followed by the Disneyland Park version in 2020. Over five years later, the ride remains extremely popular, with wait times often spiking over two hours during busy seasons.

As one of Disney‘s most awe-inspiring attractions, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is also one of the most unreliable. The trackless ride has sensitive sensors, meaning something as simple as a dropped hat or cell phone can trigger an emergency shutdown. One of the attraction’s special effects, a set of moving cannons, broke shortly after it opened (at both parks) and remained motionless for several years. Disneyland Resort recently repaired its cannons, but Walt Disney World Resort guests say the effect has yet to return.
Last week, TikTok user @fairytalelife_wife shared this video after getting stuck on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance around 10:00 p.m. The video shows a Disney cast member chatting with guests as they sat in the motionless ride vehicle–ironically, just feet from the attraction’s unloading platform.
@fairytalelife_wife have you been stuck on a Disney Ride. Happy it was the end of ride where it happened, and they are super quick, throughou all through the process of getting you out.
Eventually, Disney cast members unlocked the safety restraints and evacuated guests from Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
“Happy it was the end of ride where it happened, and they are super quick, [throughout] all through the process of getting you out,” the Disney Park guest wrote.

It’s unclear what caused this Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance breakdown, as Walt Disney World Resort rarely issues public statements about minor attraction malfunctions. However, the Disney’s Hollywood Studios ride eventually reopened and operated normally in the days following the incident.
