For years, Disney theme parks were considered to be near the top of the pyramid when it came to theme park food. Guests could not get enough of the unique food options, like freshly made turkey legs, perfectly sweet and fluffy churros, house-made pickles, Monte Cristo sandwiches, and the iconic DOLE Whip and DOLE Whip Float.
However, a lot of theme parks have worked really hard to improve their theme park game, and it’s worked. Guests love visiting places like Knott’s Berry Farm for its yearly Boysenberry Festival.

On May 22, Universal Orlando Resort opened its newest theme park, Epic Universe. Epic Universe consists of five stunning lands, full of exciting rides and attractions, great gift shops, and even better restaurants. The new theme park is getting very high praise for the food found in Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe is not the first Nintendo-themed land to open at a Universal Studios theme park in the US.
Back in February 2023, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the lines to get into the new park were long. Guests absolutely loved riding Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and shopping at the 1-Up Factory. But the most popular place in the park might just be Toadstool Café.

Toadstool Café offers a variety of Italian-inspired dishes, including Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Yoshi’s Fettucine Alfredo, Fire Flower Spaghetti & Meatballs, and ? Block Tiramisu.
The restaurant also has several burgers on the menu, and while they sound really good, not every burger topping is liked by every guest. Unfortunately, Toadstool Café does not appear to be interested in catering to its guests when it comes to requested alterations.
X (formerly Twitter) user Universally Speaking shared a frustrating situation he encountered while visiting the in-demand café.

Universally Speaking was very open and described himself as a picky eater. He went to Toadstool Café and attempted to order one of the burgers, and asked if he could customize it. In the video, he did not specify which burger he wanted, but commented that not everyone likes Thousand Island Sauce.
Unfortunately, Universal’s response was not what he was hoping to hear. According to Universally Speaking, the Universal team member told him that Toad was “very specific” about what he puts on the burger, and what he is willing to take off. So, the poster was not able to customize his burger. If he wanted to remove something from the burger, he would have to do it himself.

Many commenters were surprised to learn that Universal was so unwilling to simply leave an item off its burger. However, they did note that Universal would most likely be more accommodating if the guest had an allergy issue, but even then, it might be difficult.
This is not the first time Toadstool Café has been called out for being more accommodating than other restaurants.
Not long after the restaurant opened, Reddit user crome66 shared how annoying his visit was there as well. The OP (Original Poster) said there were a host of issues — not being allowed to add bacon to an Impossible burger, not removing mushrooms from another burger even though his girlfriend was allergic to them, being unable to get a drink without ice, and the restaurant having no gluten-free pasta or burger options.
Toadstool Cafe is weirdly unaccommodating.

Commenters said that they also experienced similar situations. One person claimed they were lactose-intolerant, but Universal would not remove the cheese from the burger she wanted.
Many people said that Nintendo wanted the food to look a certain way, which is why there was almost no room for accommodations. However, that has led to a lot of people getting upset, especially those with allergies and certain medical conditions. It’s understandable that Nintendo has a vision, but when you’re dealing with real people and not a video game, you have to be adaptive.
Do you think Universal and Nintendo have to be more willing to accommodate guests who dine at Toadstool Café? Or should guests just dine somewhere else? Should Universal and Nintendo be held responsible if a guest has an allergic reaction? Share your thoughts on this with us in the comments!
