For more than 30 years, guests visiting The Happiest Place on Earth, AKA Disneyland Resort, have set up camp along the Rivers of America each night to enjoy the iconic show, Fantasmic!l. Fantasmic! features everyone’s favorite mouse, Mickey, and the adventures he goes on while sleeping. In his dream, Mickey believes that he is the Sorcerer’s apprentice, and he creates magical experiences, featuring pirate battles, princesses, dancing elephants, and more fantastical scenes.
Mickey is then pulled into the Magic Mirror, where he must battle some of Disney’s most legendary villains, including The Evil Queen, Maleficent, Ursula, and Chernabog. Only Mickey’s imagination can save the day, and luckily for him, he has a great imagination!

In April 2023, Fantasmic! suffered a devastating fire, and the show has been struggling with a multitude of problems ever since. During the show, Maleficent’s dragon tries to hit Mickey with fire. However, something went wrong during that fateful show, and the dragon’s head quickly became engulfed in flames. Before long, the entire dragon was on fire, and guests were quickly escorted from the area.
The dragon, known as Murphy, has yet to return to the show, and the performances have been altered in order to accommodate the lack of an animatronic dragon. But many guests are sad that the show just isn’t the same.

Disney influencer Five Fires (@thecalibae) recently visited Disneyland Park and was excited to watch Fantasmic!. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned, and disappointed guests were forced to experience the show in what Five Fires called “G-Mode”.
At the end of the show, a ton of Disney characters sail down the Rivers of America on the Mark Twain Riverboat — everyone from Prince Eric and Ariel to Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Wendy, Aladdin, Lilo, Stitch, Timon, and so many more!
However, as you can see in the video, at the end of the show, there was no sailing of the Mark Twain Riverboat. Instead, some of the characters stood on Tom Sawyer Island for the final number and waved at the crowd.

As if that were not bad enough, thecalibae also shared that the castle projections during Wondrous Journeys were also not working. Wondrous Journeys was first introduced at Disneyland in celebration of The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. The nighttime spectacular was brought back in celebration of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, but according to other comments, the castle projections have not been working for weeks.
Disney has not said if the dragon will return to Fantasmic! in the future, but it’s possible that they do not want to spend what could be more than $1 million on building a new animatronic. It’s possible the company is also figuring out how to prevent something like the fire from happening again before they invest any more money into it.
Do you think Disneyland’s Fantasmic! has too many malfunctions happening on a consistent basis? Do you think Disney should invest more money into the show in an attempt to improve it? Or is it time for Fantasmic! to say farewell? Share your thoughts on all things Fantasmic! with us in the comments!
