Newly uploaded data from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is giving us our first look at the size and location of the upcoming Monsters Inc. door vault roller coaster. The building will be the largest attraction building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and one of the largest attraction buildings at all of Walt Disney World – surpassing buildings built for the nearby Rise of the Resistance attraction, Avatar Flight of Passage, TRON Lightcycle Run, and many others. It is only dwarfed by the massive Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind complex at EPCOT. Here’s a look at what we know!

Massive Monsters Inc. Door Vault Roller Coaster Building

As we have been reporting since August 2024, the Monsters Inc. door vault roller coaster building would take over a portion of the Hollywood Studios Cast Member parking lot.

By November 2024, Walt Disney World confirmed that the new Monsters Inc. land would take over the Muppets Courtyard area. We labeled the concept art, showing where everything would be once the work was complete. It was obvious that the Monsters Inc. door vault roller coaster would have to take over the Cast Member parking lot, but the true scale of the building wasn’t depicted in the artwork.

In early June, we exclusively reported that Walt Disney World had earmarked some 10 acres of the Cast Member parking lot for construction activities related to the upcoming Monsters Inc. land. A few days later, we had some aerial photos from Bioreconstruct, confirming our reporting of a massive chunk of Cast Member parking cordoned off for construction. This is where we had been speculating that the roller coaster would be located for some 10 months.

Earlier this month, Walt Disney World released new concept art for the Monsters Inc. land. While many of the changes were relatively minor, Disney did set the door vault roller coaster further back in the land, creating more of a walkway lead up to the show building.

Still, it was simply concept art and difficult to visualize the size and scale of the building. Now, we have a first look at the actual anticipated building layout, location, and size. Newly updated map data from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District shows the size and location of the Monsters Inc. door vault roller coaster building. As you can see in our overlay photo below, the building will be wholly set in the Cast Member parking lot, quite far back from the nearby Rise of the Resistance building to the left. This location supports the earlier observation that Disney is setting the building further “back” in the land than originally planned.

Here’s another look, with the Monsters Inc. door vault building isolated, but still in the correct position and correct scale, as seen in the overlay above. If I’m reading the data correctly, the building will be some 103,000sqft, making it the largest attraction building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and one of the largest at all of Walt Disney World. It will be some 11% larger than the nearby Rise of the Resistance attraction, which clocks in at roughly 92,000sqft.

The ride building has to be massive, too. As seen in the concept art and scale model below, guests will be zipping through the iconic door vault scene from Monsters Inc. on Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster. Of course, the model gives us a better idea of how much of the building will be used for the roller coaster. While not all of the 103,000 sqft will be roller coaster space, a significant portion of it will be. We expect that the ride experience will be through cavernous spaces on a massive scale.
