There’s a lot changing in Walt Disney World, with several classic rides and attractions set to close forever. Check them out here.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1991. Back then, the park was still known as Disney MGM Studios and looked noticeably different from what it does today. However, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster has offered the same heart-pumping action it has since the very beginning.
Featuring a thrilling launch, fast speeds, sharp turns, and sudden drops, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is one of the most exhilarating attractions at Walt Disney World. It’s also the only ride to go upside down, giving it an edge over other popular roller coasters like Space Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Expedition Everest.
However, the ride’s most unique aspect is its theming. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s story centers around the legendary real-life rock band Aerosmith. Guests find themselves taking a tour through a music studio when they come across Aerosmith laying down a track. They are then invited to the band’s show that night, but need an ultra-fast way to the venue.
The band’s manager finds a solution by ordering a “super” stretch limo capable of accommodating everybody. During the nighttime journey, various Aerosmith songs blast through the ride’s speaker system.
Disney confirmed in 2025 that Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, in its current form, would be closing permanently, though the ride itself isn’t going anywhere. Disney World plans to make the Muppets the ride’s new headline act. Details are unknown about this overhaul, but guests can expect to see Kermit, Miss Piggy, and many more Muppet friends on the updated roller coaster.
DINOSAUR

DINOSAUR has been providing thrills and chills for decades and is arguably the scariest ride currently open at Walt Disney World.
This ferocious thrill ride opened alongside Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998, though it was initially called Countdown To Extinction. The original attraction offered pretty much the exact same experience as what guests can today with DINOSAUR, though with a few sound and audio changes and a few different on-ride effects.
DINOSAUR is full of lifelike dino animatronics and some really intense show scenes. However, just like everything else on this list, DINOSAUR will soon be going extinct. While there’s not an exact closing date for the ride, Disney has stated DINOSAUR will shut down for good sometime in 2026.
Tom Sawyer Island

While not exactly a “ride” per se, guests still need to board a raft to access the island, so we put it on the list anyway. Tom Sawyer Island is one of Disney World’s most iconic and legendary attractions and has been a part of Magic Kingdom for decades.
Tom Sawyer Island is hard to describe, as it’s not exactly an attraction in the traditional sense but more of an immersive playground. Once guests cross the Rivers of America, they are given free rein to explore the island, which is equipped with caves, hills, bridges, and all kinds of other fun locations.
Disney announced the closure of Tom Sawyer Island back in 2024 at the company’s D23 event. The news came as quite a surprise, considering just how crucial Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are to Magic Kingdom, not just thematically but literally.
In 2025, Disney confirmed that these two experiences, along with the Liberty Square Riverboat, would be ending operation forever in July to make way for the company’s ambitious new Frontierland revamp. Eventually, the western-themed land will be home to a new area named Piston Peak, a national park location inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise.
A number of attractions have already closed at Disney World, including Muppet*Vision 3D, TriceraTop Spin, and “It’s Tough to be a Bug.” Plenty more changes are on the way for Walt Disney World, so make sure you stay up to date ahead of your next trip!
