Good morning from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort where infrastructure work is underway for a new lobby bar. The walk-up bar is part of a larger refresh of the Grand Floridian lobby that will be completed next year. Here’s a look at the latest work!
Construction Begins on Grand Floridian Lobby Bar
As you can see in our photos below, some plumbing work is underway as crews lay the first bit of infrastructure for the lobby bar. Before we get to the construction photos, here’s a look at concept art for the refreshed lobby. We can see that the lobby bar replaces the birdcage, but retains nods to the Grand Floridian relic.

Going back to our visit this morning, you can see that the area of work is uncovered, with exposed dirt and pipes as crews continue to work on the area. As you might imagine, the smell of dirt was noticeable, but minor.
The early infrastructure work appears to be related to drainage, perhaps for sinks or other types of drains such as in-floor drainage.
We visited early enough this morning to be outside of work hours, but Disney notes that “construction will be noticeable during daytime hours, [and] efforts will be made to minimize disruptions”. Here’s a look!

It’s immensely interesting to me to see all-new infrastructure added to an operational (and old) hotel. Outside of the construction walls and minor dirt smell, there is no impact to guests – no tunnels to dig or anything. I guess that drainage may be easier to hook up to existing systems. Perhaps we’ll see a bigger impact should there be water lines introduced. Either way, here’s a closer look at the current pipe maze.

Elsewhere in the lobby, work was continuing on refreshing the check-in counter area. In case you missed it, front desk operations have shifted. Check out our earlier article for a more in-depth look at what you can expect if you’re visiting soon.
