A classic has fallen. Or rather, a classic element of a classic attraction has recently changed at Magic Kingdom. While riding the Tomorrowland PeopleMover earlier today, we noticed that the people counter turnstile had been removed. Here’s a look!
People Counter Turnstile Removed from Tomorrowland PeopleMover
The people counter turnstile is a classic element of theme parks and amusement parks worldwide. The turnstile, which would click once per person, would be used to count the number of people to enter an attraction during a specific time period. Other uses include restricting access to a specific area until proper credentials are produced. In modern times at Magic Kingdom, the counter turnstiles have been more of a relic than a tool. As technology has advanced, the need for a turnstile has diminished. That said, turnstiles were still present in some attractions until recently.
The Tomorrowland PeopleMover is just the latest attraction to see its turnstiles removed. Before that, both the Carousel of Progress and Country Bear Jamboree also had their turnstiles removed. Here’s a look at the change for the Tomorrowland PeopleMover.

As of this morning, the turnstiles remain in place at the Liberty Square Riverboat. With the permanent closure of the Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and the greater Rivers of America area scheduled for next month, it’s unlikely that we see any last-minute changes here.
