Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has posted a video to social media where he congratulates Universal Orlando Resort on their brand new Epic Universe theme park. DeSantis posted the video from Epic Universe during his visit to the park today during a pre-opening celebration with VIPs and preferred media outlets. Universal Epic Universe officially opens to the public tomorrow, May 22nd.
DeSantis Congratulates Universal on Epic Universe Opening
In the video, DeSantis called the park “pretty amazing” saying that kids would really enjoy the park. He endorsed the park, saying that people should check it out. DeSantis then touted some of the economic impact of the park, not only the “billions and billions” that were spent to build the park, but that it will be a “huge impact economically for Florida” moving forward.
DeSantis then mentioned that the park would be great for kids again, saying that families will be able to create a lot of memories at the park. He then listed the four IPs for the themed lands within Epic Universe.
DeSantis said that there was a great vision for the theme park, and that Universal executed that vision very well. He then closed out by saying congratulations to Universal on the grand opening of Epic Universe. DeSantis posted the video from his political/personal account, and then retweeted it from his account as governor of the state.
DeDantis’ appearance and invitation to the opening of Universal’s Epic Universe is significant given his very public fight with Walt Disney World. Of course, there is no love lost between DeSantis and Walt Disney World since he worked to take over the local government entity that governs the area that Walt Disney World is a part of. DeSantis not only had a very public spat with Disney, but they sued each other during the process. It all started when DeSantis was unhappy with Disney’s statement against his “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
A lot of that went away when DeSantis’ ambitions for President of the United States were squashed. The lawsuits were settled, and there was a fundamental shakeup at DeSantis’ Central Florida Tourism District that saw most of the members of the hand-selected board leave. A new District Administrator also arrived.
