A new steel structure is being built in a backstage area of Frontierland, likely for the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction. The steel structure can be seen from aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad and some areas of Frontierland. Here’s a look!
New Structure Under Construction Near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
While Walt Disney World has not announced any projects, we wouldn’t really expect an announcement for a backstage building. If we had to guess, I would speculate that this building is a new vehicle barn for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness is paused currently as Walt Disney World performs a legacy rebuild of the attraction. Big Thunder will reopen sometime in 2026, and it looks like there will be an upgraded vehicle barn when it reopens
We’ll start with a look at the building from walkways areas around the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction exit. As you can see, this building will certainly be visible from guest areas, so good Imagineering would say that it should be themed or hidden from guest view by trees or some other foliage. We’ll have to see which route Walt Disney World takes, if any, once the building is complete.

From aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad, we can see more of the building. While it’s hard to show in photos thanks to some well-placed shrubs, it looks like this building will be the new and improved vehicle barn for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It looks like the former vehicle barn has been demolished.
Here’s a look back at the old vehicle barn as seen in the October 2024 aerial photo below.

Here are some photos of the new structure from aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad, both at the Frontierland station and as we pass by the construction site.
