The highly anticipated sequel to a popular Pixar film is coming out in 2029, or is it?

During a recent shareholders meeting, Disney and Pixar officially announced that a sequel to Coco was in production and was set to release in 2029, prompting a lot of excitement and hype from fans. However, less than 24 hours later, Pixar has since pulled this original release year from its announcement, hinting that the film may not hit this original release schedule.
Pixar and Disney also formally announced Coco 2 on the company’s various social media accounts, but all mentions of a 2029 release have since been wiped for unknown reasons. It’s possible this date was not meant to be shared publicly or has been changed.
Disney teamed up with Pixar to release the original Coco in 2017, a film that has since joined the ranks of some of Disney’s most beloved animated films. Praised for its stunning animation style and heartwrenching emotional core, Coco has been a film franchise ripe for Disney to expand upon, making a sequel a no-brainer for the company.
In addition to telling a captivating and uplifting story, Coco is one of the most visually striking films Disney and Pixar have created. The film became both a critical and commercial hit, generating more than $800 million at the worldwide box office.
Rumors regarding a potential Coco-themed theme park attraction have run rampant since the film was released. Disney is finally taking the plunge and opening a dark ride based on the film at Disneyland in the next few years.

Not a whole lot of details were given regarding what fans can expect out of Coco 2, though Disney did share a bit of information on the upcoming sequel. “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger. And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
It was confirmed that Coco 2 will reunite the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich, who also worked on Toy Story 4, and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen, the Oscar-winning producer of Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will produce the film.
Coco 2 is hardly the only high-profile project fans can anticipate, with Disney’s live-action Snow White and Lilo & Stitch remakes both hitting theaters in 2025.
Disney is also producing a live-action Moana film, which is expected to be a retelling of Disney’s box-office-busting original animated film from 2016.
