Magic Kingdom Park has been constantly changing lately, and the most recent update is in the Liberty Square area. Walt Disney World Resort has quietly refurbished one of the most historic parts of the colonial America-themed land.
Liberty Square is just one of six themed lands at Magic Kingdom Park; the others are Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Main Street, U.S.A. Both Liberty Square and Frontierland are set to undergo massive transformations in the coming years, as Walt Disney Imagineers plan to fill in the Rivers of America and bulldoze Tom Sawyer Island to make way for two all-new Cars (2006) attractions. Although the Cars rides will technically be in Frontierland, the construction will mean the end of the Liberty Square Riverboat attraction and the end of the scenic riverfront in the area.

Nearby Frontierland has already undergone a massive makeover with the closure of its original Shootin’ Arcade for a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) lounge, Splash Mountain’s transformation into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the refreshed Country Bear Musical Jamboree. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for a year-long refurbishment as Walt Disney Imagineers anticipate increased traffic to the attraction after they finish building an all-new Disney Villains land nearby. This new land will make Magic Kingdom Park larger than ever.

But not all construction projects at Magic Kingdom Park are so grand. Currently, Walt Disney World Resort is quietly refurbishing historic brickwork near the bridge from the Cinderella Castle hub to Liberty Square.
On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the brickwork was being completed in patches. An area that was once cordoned off with ropes is now accessible to guests, and the bricks are surrounded by bright white, fresh mortar. Nearby, unrefurbished bricks appear worn and dirty next to the new installations.

Crews work on the brick replacement overnight to lessen impacts on crowd flow and prevent disruptions to Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade and other cavalcades that travel over the bridge daily. Whether they plan to continue work in the area remains unclear, but it seems likely now that the difference between the old and new bricks is noticeable.
