Liberated Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday, confirming the company will end its North American operations permanently, according to Financier Worldwide. Authentic Brands Group owns Quicksilver, Billabong, and Volcom, which it licensed to Liberated Brands.
However, all three brands will be ending their U.S. operations, with Authentic pulling Liberated Brand’s licensing in December 2024.
The company saw a boom in sales following the initial COVID-19 outbreak, expanding storefronts from 67 to 140. All of these 140 locations are now set to close in a liquidation sale, including the Volcom store found in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs.

Disney Springs is a place for guests to go between their time at the parks, offering a wide assortment of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Filled with leading brands like Harley Davidson, LEGO, and Vera Bradley, guests are encouraged to shop until they drop, with Disney Springs staying open until 11 p.m. daily.
Disney Springs is also home to several recreational activities. Guests can stop by Splitsville for a round or two of bowling or visit Disney Springs’ AMC theater to catch the latest film releases.
Since 2016, guests have been able to shop at Volcom, which specializes in skateboarding and surfing gear and apparel. The storefront is located in the Town Center, which includes a variety of other shops and boutiques.
This Volcom store is one of the dozens that will close soon as Liberated Brands winds down operations.
“The Liberated team has worked tirelessly over the last year to propel these iconic brands forward, but a volatile global economy, consumer spending changes amid a rising cost of living, and inflationary pressures have all taken a heavy toll,” Liberated Brands said in a statement. “Despite this difficult change, we are encouraged that many of our talented associates have found new opportunities with other license holders that will carry these great brands into the future.”
A timeline for the store closures, including the one at Disney Springs, has not been revealed.
This is hardly the first closure Disney Springs has seen, with multiple storefronts shutting down recently. In 2024, guests at multiple locations close for good at Disney Springs, including ALEX and ANI and Swings N’ Things – The Hammock Experts Kiosk. Sanuk also closed in 2024, which specialized in shoes and accessories.
